Over 11,000 young people from across the Commonwealth entered the Commonwealth Queen’s Essay Competition. This year’s competition was themed ‘A Connected Commonwealth’ and entrants were asked to consider how they can work to use cultural, technological and environmental connections for positive change across the Commonwealth. 

 GIS is excited to announce that with over 100 volunteer judges drawn from 40 different countries, our students showed how much #GISROCKS! Across Junior School and Secondary School, we have the following results:Overall Junior Runner Up: Elise Jensen, Gold Finalists – 4, Gold – 14, Silver – 34 and Bronze – 81. We collected 134 Awards in total.
Form 2 Student Miss Elise Jensen was adjudged Junior Runner-up from over 11,000 entries!
According to the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) website, Elise’s poem ‘A place you feel connected to’ is a vibrant, vivid celebration of her favourite elements of Ghanaian culture; a welcoming tale of food, dancing, clothing and the ties she feels to the country.  

Dr. Diana Owen OBE, Director General of the Royal Over-Seas League and Chair of the Junior Final Panel, said of Elise’s poem, ‘A heartfelt hymn to Ghana, lively, bright, optimistic, playful and confident.’

The Principal of Ghana International School, Dr. Mary Ashun, teachers, and students all congratulated Elise on her wonderful achievement.
