GIS holds Monthly Community Event and UN POP-UP Festival

Ghana International School organizes monthly community events to support Dads and Mums (with children from Ages 3-18) with relevant and timely parenting strategies. Today’s Topic: Protect your Child from Sexual Abuse, was targeted at Parents and Staff of G.I.S. It ran concurrently with the UN POP-UP Festival, a day set aside to promote and celebrate children’s rights as well as their emotions and well being.

The UN Pop Up Festival targets children between the ages of 7-18 as well as parents. G.I.S. collaborated with Imago-Connect Limited ( I.C.L), a UN selected partner for the event.

As a school we are excited to have been part of the UN’s initiative to bring emotional intelligence awareness and resources to children and adults while creating a friendly environment for children through dialogue and actions”. G.I.S continues to meet its strategic goals which include making an impact in our community though service.

Ms. Cecilia Dei-Anang, C.E.O of Imago-Connect Limited with Dr. Kristine Marbell-Pierre, Head of Guidance and Counselling at G.I.S, lead an icebreaker activity with parents and children in line with one of the UN POP-UP festival themes (Self Awareness)

She explains why it is better for one to say “I disagree” rather than “No”, clarifying that this response provides a platform for further engagement and dialogue.
Team members from Imago-Connect Limited, put children in various groups and asked them to disagree on a subject and explain their reasons (Fostering healthy relationships through interactions)‍
While the children participated in the UN-POP UP Festival, parents were engaged in an informative discussion about how to protect their wards from sexual abuse. The discussion was led by Dr. Kristine Marbell-Pierre
